Ingredients : 236mL boiling water 60g unsweetened cocoa powder 180g flour 1 teaspoon baking soda 1/4 teaspoon baking powder (1/4 teaspoon selt) 225g sugar 120g butter, softened 2 eggs 3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract write chocolate or white cooking icing
Recipe : Boil the water and add the cocoa powder, slowly. Stir to combine and set aside. In a bowl put in the flour, baking soda and baking powder (and selt). In a another bowl, cream together sugar and butter until it is light and fluffy. Beat eggs and add vanilla. Combine 1/3 of the flour mixture, 1/3 of the sugar mixture and 1/3 of the chocolate mixture, alterning they are all added in. Combine the same mixtures again until there are nothing in every bowl. Remember to tap the pan on the counter. Bake at 180°C and for 30-35 min, or until your cake tester comes out clean. Let cool completly before propping out the pan. To decorate the cake : if you use the white chocolate, melt it with two pans (one with boiled water and the other with the chocolate on the first) and try to spread it with a teaspoon ; if you use the cooking icing, sprend it like a spider or its web... . Enjoy your cake !
My opinion : I chose this recipe because its ingredients were easy to find : the english ingredients aren’t the same in France so I looked for a good recipe but with “french” ingredients.
I found my cake moist and a little dry, and it didn’t really tasted the chocolate, or only a little, but it was still good. It was strange because my first taste was a nastier than a delightful taste but after I was crazy about it !
In my recipe, I didn’t have the vanilla extract, so I couldn’t follow it exactly, and I used liquid vanilla instead of extract. I didin’t put in selt either because my mum said it wasn’t good to add balikng powder and selt because it didn’t rise so. Instead of white cooking icing I used white chocolate because I didn’t know how it worked and it was easier for me to find white chocolate, but if you know cooking icing or have ever used it, it would be easier for you to use it !
